Army chief withdrew the extension request

(What happened, is he afraid? Why has he taken his petition request back?)

The petition that Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa filed in the Peshawar High Court against the three-year extension of the term of service was withdrawn. According to the details, the petition was heard by Chief Justice Peshawar Waqar Ahmed Seth and Justice Mohammad Naeem. On the request of the Chief Justice to withdraw the plea, the lawyer inquired, “What happened scared?”

It may be recalled that lawyer Mian Azizuddin Kaka Khel had challenged the extension of the army chief. The petition stated that the army chief’s term was extended by Imran Khan illegally and unconstitutionally. The petition was filed by Syed Azizuddin Kakakhel, a prominent Peshawar lawyer who is known for filing such petitions.

Syed Azizuddin Kaka Khel is a member of the High Court and is also a member of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association.

Journalist Matiullah Jan said that the petition was made a party to President Pakistan and its Principal Secretary, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Secretary Defense. The application consisted of seven pages stating that a notification was issued from the Prime Minister’s Office that extended the term of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa for three years in the November 2019 term which was illegal and is unconstitutional.

According to the applicant, it falls into the category of Iqbal. Remember that on August 19, 2019, the federal government announced a three-year extension to the term of Army Chief. In this regard, notification was also issued from the Prime Minister’s Office.
