Faisal Edhi’s boat capsizes during a relief mission in the Malir River in Karachi.
Protoday247 New Monitoring Desk: Philanthropist Faisal Edhi’s boat capsized during a relief mission in the Malir River on Wednesday. Edhi, president of one of Pakistan’s largest charitable organisations, the Edhi Foundation, along with members of his staff, took part in relief operations after the recent torrential rains devastated the area.
According to a PTI spokesperson, Edhi was cruising the river in a boat with PTI MPA Raja Azhar, and a team of five was looking for people in need of help when their boat capsized. The Edhi officials drowned when they were saved by fishermen in a fishing vessel and transferred to Ibrahim Hyderi.
Residents of various districts in Sindh — including Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Tharparkar — suffered sustained power outages and flooded roads as heavy rains battered southern Pakistan on Monday and Tuesday, and the provincial government subsequently declared an emergency.
