CHAIRMAN NAB’S ORDER TO INVESTIGATE THE INCREASE IN MEDICINE RATES
News: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Chairman- Justice Javeed Iqbal has taken notice against the sudden increase in the medicine rates on Tuesday.
He ordered the director of NAB Rawalpindi to set an investigation against the officers of the Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP) and the Federal Health Ministry to be the accusers of the corruption and rise of the rate of medicines.
The medicine rates have surged by up to 100% – 300% throughout the country which has enabled the common people to afford the medicines to get remedies to their illnesses.
According to the reports, The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) had taken a notice (with the approval of Federal Government) against the Medicine Companies for their high rates across Pakistan earlier this year in the month of January. This report has recorded the increase of rates of medicine up to 9% rise on Life-Saving Drugs and a 15% rise on other medicines.
For this alleged increase of prices Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan declared Mr. Amir Kyani– the Health Minister guilty and removed him of his post.
However, Mr. Kyani denys to accept this responsibility of rising prices of medicines.
He says, “ Previously, the rise in rates of medicine was done under the last Government, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and currently, the rise in Dollar Exchange Rates has compelled us to raise the prices of a few medicines up to 2% – 9%
